BBC National Short Story Award
Deadline March 11 (must be received by this date), formerly March 12. Highly recommended free contest for UK citizens/residents aged 18+ with “a prior record of publication” awards top prize of 15,000 pounds for the best short story up to 8,000 words. Stories must either be unpublished or have been first published during the previous calendar year. See website for detailed eligibility rules. Online entries strongly preferred. If sending by mail, include 8 copies of the story along with completed entry form. Entries may be submitted by author or by their publisher or agent. Co-sponsored by the British Broadcasting Corporation and Cambridge University.
