Brexit in Poetry Competition
Deadline December 31 (must be received by this date; don't enter before June 14). Neutral free contest gives 200 pounds and online publication for a previously unpublished poem up to 50 lines about Brexit, by a poet age 18+. Enter by email only. Contest sponsor London-based Holland Park Press Ltd. publishes literary fiction and poetry, placing special emphasis on bringing the work of Dutch authors to the English-language market. Holland Park's contests are usually one-time events, replaced by a new themed contest next year. For 2018, editors say, "Do you feel European or do you think living on an island makes a difference? Are you or will you be affected? Has it influenced the way you think about your own identity or future? We are not interested in whether you are for or against leaving the EU, because when reading poetry, it does not matter if you agree or disagree with the poet but what is important is that you submit a great poem. In short: it’s about how you've put the poem together: your use of language, rhythm, sound, imagery, etc. We want to be touched, inspired or even frustrated by your poem."
