Minnesota Emerging Writers’ Grant
Deadline March 31 (must be received by this date), formerly May 6. Recommended free contest from The Loft Literary Center awards up to five grants of $8,000 apiece to Minnesota writers who have published no more than two books in any genre and who have not previously received national awards. The grants will be given to underwrite projects of their own design, beginning on or after September 1 of the deadline year and concluding by August 31 of the following year. Not a beginning writers' grant, it is intended to support the artistic or career advancement of writers who have some level of professional achievement yet are under-recognized. Writers must live in Minnesota at the time of application and have lived in the state for at least one year. See sponsor's comprehensive guidelines for additional eligibility restrictions and application requirements. Using the sponsor's online submission system, submit 15-20 single-spaced pages of poetry, 20-30 double-spaced pages of prose, OR 10 single-spaced pages of poetry and 15 double-spaced pages of prose, along with supporting application materials (e.g., artist proposal, brief bio, preliminary budget, and CV/resume).
