New York City Emerging Writers Fellowship
Deadline January 31 (must be received by this date), formerly February 15. Highly recommended free contest from the Center for Fiction awards nine fellowships of $5,000 each for writing samples of no more than 7,500 words by writers who live in New York City and have not published a first novel or short story collection. Among several other prizes, winners will be published in an anthology, participate in two public readings, and receive complimentary admission to Center events for one year. Multiple "short shorts", one complete short story, or a novel excerpt are acceptable as one submission as long as the total word count does not exceed 7,500. Students in degree-granting programs are not eligible. No cover letter required. Submit proof of residency and one-page resume with submission online.
