What is a self-published book?
A self-published book is one published on the author's own initiative, either through an author-services company (e.g. BookBaby, iUniverse, PublishAmerica, Xlibris) or a publishing imprint that the author created or controls. A self-published book is not one that was selected through a competitive editorial process at a publishing house unaffiliated with the author. Generally, the author of a self-published book has paid most or all of the cost of formatting, printing, and distributing the book.
