After the Battle of Berlin is the fifth of the ten poems I have written. They were all written for a class at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT, from which I should graduate in December. As a middle aged women and mother of a son, I was struck by how young our soldiers in Iraq are and how young they are in all wars. The story the poem is based on is about a 20-year-old in WWII. Soldiers are faced with decisions and choices that no one should have to face and that are particularly difficult for people new to being on their own.
