Born in 1954, I have developed my writing skills from the Felician nuns at St. Stanislaus parochial school in Ambridge, PA, from the professors at the University of Pittsburgh, and National University where I earned my MFA. I also like to credit the Barbour County Writers Workshop in Philippi, WV, my co-home state.
With my Catholicism and Polish ancestry, the subject of "Confessions" brings a mix of characters, Polish Catholics, Polish Jews, and German Nazis. I like the poem on several levels. It shows the ability of an oppressed people to cross religious lines. It also shows the horrible way that guilt can take hold in guiltless yet tormented souls, how the physical and emotional scars of war seem never to heal.
