Jessica H. Stone, writing as Jes Hart Stone, is an author, ghostwriter, and long-distance sailor.
Jes and her Border Collie sailed together for sixteen years. They cruised the Pacific, the Caribbean, Puget Sound, and the Mexican coast. Kip celebrated his eighteenth birthday as they crossed the equator for the first time. Their experiences led to the popular book Doggy on Deck: Life at Sea with a Salty Dog and the long-running syndicated column "Cruising with Critters".
While serving as crew on a vessel from Panama to Honduras, Jes experienced the terror of being chased by (real-life) pirates. Years of living aboard her 41' sloop provided a solid foundation for her book How to Retire on a Boat and her online column "At Home on the Boat".
Her debut novel, The Last Outrageous Woman, won First Place in the Somerset Award for Women's Literary Fiction and the Chanticleer Reviews Best Book of 2014.
Blood on a Blue Moon won first place in the 2018 Murder and Mayhem Awards—Chanticleer International Book Awards, the 2019 Best Mystery Award from Black Magnolia Books, and Honorable Mention in the Genre Fiction category of the 2024 North Street Book Prize.
Her psychological thriller, Such Lovely Skin, won third place in the Mystery, Thriller, Horror in-progress category of the Pacific Northwest Writers Conference 2023. It is set for release in 2025 by Crystal Lake Publishing
Jes divides her time between a small coastal village in the Pacific Northwest and a remote town high in the mountains of central Mexico.
