Laura Shumaker has recently completed her memoir, A Regular Guy: Growing Up With Autism. She has been an advocate for her autistic son, Matthew, and other disabled children in her community for almost twenty years. A regular contributor to NPR Perspectives and a columnist for The Autism Perspective, she is a member of the Wednesday Writers Group of Oakland, California, whose books of essays fund Breast Cancer Research. Laura's work has also been published in the San Francisco Chronicle, the Contra Costa Times and Guideposts Magazine. Laura lives in Lafayette, California with her husband, Peter, and her three teenage boys.
