L.S. Johnson was born in New York and now lives in Northern California, where she feeds her cats by indexing books. In her previous life she taught college-level humanities and for eleven years was a production manager for a book design company, until she finally got tired of making other people's books and decided to work on her own instead. Her stories have appeared in such venues as Strange Horizons, Interzone, Long Hidden: Speculative Fiction from the Margins of History, and Year's Best Weird Fiction, and she has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and longlisted for the Tiptree Award. Vacui Magia: Stories is her first collection.
