I was born in Shanghai, China, of an Italian-Dutch-Indonesian father and Chinese mother. We were exiled by the Communists in 1952 and went to Italy, where we lived five years before I and the remainder of my family emigrated to the United States. Later, I moved to Rio de Janeiro with my engineer husband and lived there until our return to California in 1980. I have published five novels and two story/essay collections. The short pieces have earned eight first-place awards.
