I graduated from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine with an MD. I interned at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, then attended the University of Virginia to complete a residency in internal medicine. Upon completion of my residency, I participated in a fellowship in nephrology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
I tell stories of mystery and suspense; it’s fun. I draw on my long career in the practice of medicine. I have been inspired by people and events, and occasionally disturbed.
I like to tell a good story but would also like to expose the reader to a pernicious and perhaps unalterable change in healthcare. That is the domination of the doctor-patient relationship by computers and bureaucrats.
Despite this change I enjoy the practice of medicine and the endless opportunity to help.
When not writing or doctoring, I play too much golf and too much rock and roll. (I brought the band back!)
My wife and I live in Michigan surrounded by our two children, four grandchildren, and two big dogs.
My work has appeared or is forthcoming in Forge, Hawai'i Pacific Review, The Healing Muse, The Helix, Left Curve, Quiddity International Literary Journal, RiverSedge, and Gemini Magazine. My story "The Recidivist" won the Writer's Digest short story contest. In 2010, I was nominated for a Pushcart Prize for my story "A Battlefield Decision".
