Amy Yerkes grew up in the beautiful lake community of Rainbow Lakes, New Jersey. She received her BA in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park; her certificate in Freelance Journalism and Photography from the Australian University of Photography and Journalism in New South Wales; and her MA in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University. She is currently finishing her training as a clinical psychologist at Adelphi. Amy's writing has been published in the Hot Chocolate and Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul book series, in addition to numerous poetry anthologies. As a member of the National Association for Poetry Therapy, Amy is an advocate of using poetic word to gain entry into a magical, deep place and liberate the mind/body of negative thoughts and feelings. Amy has facilitated poetry workshops for a variety of groups, including children in inner city schools; survivors of domestic violence and women with breast cancer. Amy loves to write, travel and spend time with family and friends. Back at home in New York, Amy spends her free time with her boyfriend, Joe, and dog, Zilla.
