Sunflowers at Midnight: “Bodies” Issue
Deadline May 1 (must be received by this date). Sunflowers at Midnight, a new twice-yearly journal founded in 2022, seeks submissions of unpublished poetry, short fiction, and flash fiction for their Summer 2023 issue on the theme of "Bodies". Poetry submissions should be maximum 5 poems or 10 pages; fiction, one story of 7,000 words maximum; flash fiction, 1,000 words. Fee is $3. Two story contributors will receive $50 along with publication. Editors say, "We find that our bodies are cause for both misery and celebration for a plethora of reasons. We want to see what you see in the mirror, what you used to see, what you thought your body was supposed to look like or accomplish, the struggles it has overcome or been beaten by, the life your body has lived—scars, freckles, pimples, breaks, bruises, sweat, tears, and every bodily hurdle you have encountered. Tell us how your heart pumps, what makes the muscles in your legs quiver, what gets those neurons firing, how the dopamine floods your system, the cause for your shortness of breath. We want it all."
