Daniel James Waters was born in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Southern New Jersey. He published his first story as a medical student in 1981. An award-winning novelist, he has also authored short fiction, essays, creative nonfiction, op-eds, several poems, and one play along with two books of surgical advice. In addition to his medical degree, he holds a Graduate Certificate in Narrative Healthcare and a Master of Arts in Writing from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Asheville, NC. Retired from a 30-year career as a heart surgeon, he devotes his time to his family and his writing.
