Rata Gordon
Rata Gordon was born in 1988 in Kaikohe, Aotearoa, New Zealand. She currently lives on Waiheke Island, off the coast of Auckland, with her husband and three chickens. She works in youth mental health using creative practices including creative writing, visual arts, dance and theatre to inspire well-being. She also teaches community classes in creative writing and Open Floor movement practice, and is working towards a Master of Arts Therapy.
Rata's writing practice feeds and is fed by her other creative practices—connecting to and amplifying strange and wonderful 'inner voices'. Her poems have been published widely in New Zealand including in Best New Zealand Poems 2016. She is in the final stages of finishing her first full collection of poetry called Thumb and Tongue, and is expecting her first child.
