Robbi Pounds was born in Mississippi to an Arkansan mother and Texan father. As a first-generation college student, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi on an academic scholarship. Her short stories won the Joan Johnson Award for Fiction in 1998 and a Mississippi Arts' Commission Fellowship in 1999. She teaches horseback riding and lives in a cypress cabin on ten wooded acres within New Orleans' city limits.
