Black Lawrence Press: Black Womanhood Anthology
Deadline June 30 (must be received by this date). Literary publisher Black Lawrence Press seeks essay submissions for the forthcoming anthology Mamas, Martyrs, and Jezebels: Myths, Legends, and Other Lies You've Been Told about Black Women. Drs. Jan Boulware, Rondrea Mathis, Clarissa West-White, and Kideste Yusef of Bethune-Cookman University will serve as editors. The book aims to reconsider the popular notion of the "strong Black woman" and how it has been used to place excessive burdens of endurance on Black women, denying their humanity and vulnerability. Themes may include justice, self-care, sexuality, spirituality, and relationships at work and at home. Essays should be 700-5,000 words and accessible to a non-academic audience. Previously published work is eligible.
