Recent Honors
Congratulations to Gail Thomas. Her poetry chapbook Trail of Roots will be published by Seven Kitchens Press in their A.V. Christie Series. This publication opportunity for women writers over 50 accepts submissions in February each year. In addition, Gail's full-length collection Leaving Paradise will be published by Human Error Publishing, a Western Massachusetts independent press. Her book launch will be held on Wednesday, November 2, at 7:00 pm Eastern time at Broadside Bookshop, 247 Main Street, Northampton MA. Visit Gail's website for more events this winter.
Congratulations to Cheryl J. Fish. Her debut novel, Off the Yoga Mat, will be released this month by Livingston Press at the University of West Alabama. Set in the year 2000, the book follows the intersecting lives of a Manhattan yoga teacher confronting traumatic memories, her middle-aged student stuck on completing his graduate thesis, and his ex-girlfriend seeking love and motherhood in Finland. Read excerpts in Boog City and KGB Bar Lit. Cheryl's article about her path to publication was a featured "case study" on the blog Authors Publish. She was also interviewed on the blog Book Q&As with Deborah Kalb. Cheryl will be reading from Off the Yoga Mat on Monday. November 7, at 7:00 pm at Broadside Bookshop, 247 Main Street, Northampton, MA, and in a livestream conversation with Christy Hallberg at Malaprop's Bookstore in Asheville, NC on Thursday, October 27, at 6:00 pm Eastern (free registration here).
Congratulations to Gary Beck. His poetry collection Double Envelopment, an exploration of political divisions in America, was released last month by Purple Unicorn Media. He kindly shares a sample poem here.
Congratulations to Thelma T. Reyna. With Frank L. Meyskens Jr. and Johanna Shapiro, she co-edited the anthology Doctor Poets and Other Healers, published by Reyna's imprint Golden Foothills Press. The book recently won the Gold Medal for Anthology in the 2022 International Latino Book Awards.

Winning Writers contest judge Lauren Singer's poetry chapbook Dead Baby is available from the author. Email her at singerlaur@gmail.com to provide your mailing address and receive her Venmo information. A poet and psychotherapist, Lauren wrote this work to honor her son Ziggy, who was born sleeping in June 2021.
Charles Sartorius's story "The Missing Case of the Missing Case" was published in the Nordic Press anthology Murder! Mystery! Mayhem! Charles describes the story thus: "When an acerbic-witted underachiever discovers a mysterious invoice in his late grandfather's wallet, he enlists the services of an attitude-laden lady PI to unravel the enigma." His story "The Genome Research Project Metamorphosis" was accepted for publication in the upcoming 42 Story Anthology from BAM Writes. His horror story "The Ancient Forest Terror of Lucid Realms" was accepted for Deep in the Woods, an anthology coming out this fall from Sirens Call Publications.
Atar Hadari's translation of Avraham Chalfi's poem "Anonymous in the Rain" was published in Image Journal, Issue #100.
David Kherdian recently released the poetry collection A New Day, now available in paperback on Amazon. David shares: "I had earlier stopped writing poetry but when we fled the country after the 2017 election, I began writing poetry again: but on a higher plane than before. How this could come about in my 80s is a mystery, although I have always been a slow growing plant all my life, so these late blooming flowers, are not really that big a surprise, to have achieved my apotheosis at age 90, with the publication of this book, that comprises some of the very best poems written in this period, fills me with gratitude for the powers underlining this life, that we have so little understanding of."
Samantha Terrell's poetry collection Cosmic Tragicomedy was released in September. In a variety of forms including haiku, sestinas, free verse, and the Trinitas (her invented form), these poems address topics from the sociopolitical to the metaphysical.

Eva Tortora's letter to the editor about the power of positive thinking was published in the NY Daily News on September 4. Eva feels very positive about the Winning Writers newsletter: "Love it! It's the best newsletter on Earth!"
The Poet Spiel a/k/a the artist Tom W. Taylor has a number of his poems posted at Poemhunter for free reading.
Duane L. Herrmann's poems appeared in the anthologies Foodways (Agrarian Trust), Writers and Werewolves (Kansas Writers Association), and The Trick is to Keep Breathing (Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe). The blog I Write Her featured six of his micro-poems in their feature The Short of It in September. Another of his poems was published in September by Topeka Genealogical Society.
