							Doug Emory's essays and short fiction have appeared in Alpinist, Rock and Ice, Isele Magazine, Puerto del Sol, The Timberline Review, and Still Point Arts Quarterly, as well as other journals and newspapers. His work has also been published in anthologies including The Love Book by Blue Cedar Press, Nivalis 2022 by Fabula Press, and Stories that Need to be Told 2023 by TulipTree Publishing.
His short story collection The Topography of Isolation was published by Iron Horse Literary Review Press in spring 2025, and he was recently awarded the Kay Snow Award in Writing for Creative Non-fiction by the Willamette Writers organization.
Over the past year, his most substantial writing project has involved grudging progress on a novel titled Frozen Lake. Excerpts from this novel have appeared in Isele Magazine and been shortlisted in the Letter Review Prize for Unpublished Books competition. A third excerpt has been accepted for the inaugural edition of Carmalarky Magazine, with publication anticipated by the end of 2025.
Doug holds BA and MA degrees in English from Northern Illinois University, and he completed additional graduate study at both Arizona State University and the University of Colorado, Boulder. After years of service to the community college system, he is now semi-retired and works as a freelance writer and educational consultant. He lives with his lovely wife and the younger of his two brilliant sons outside Seattle, Washington. He is an ardent outdoorsperson who spends much of his free time hiking, mountaineering, and cross-country skiing.
