Jillian Grant Shoichet's prose has appeared in the Fish Prize anthologies, the Bristol Short Story Prize Anthology, the Toronto Journal, subTerrain Magazine, Mystery Magazine, WritersDigest.com, Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine, and Ellery Queen (forthcoming). She won the 2025 Exeter Writers Short Story Competition and was previously shortlisted for the Bridport Prize, the Exeter Story Prize, the PRISM International Creative NonFiction Contest, the Writers' Union of Canada Short Prose Competition, and the Tilden Canadian Literary Awards (Saturday Night Magazine and CBC Radio).

Dr. Shoichet is grateful her writing has found an audience as there's no great demand for doctors of ancient literacy (University of Victoria, 2010). In the grand tradition of the liberally overeducated, she was an academic editor and lecturer at various universities before taking on the role of senior policy analyst in the legislation drafting office of British Columbia. This has not improved her usefulness by very much. But it has enabled her to feed her kids and buy the occasional bottle of wine for herself.

Jillian is a member of the Writers' Union of Canada and co-owner of Shoichet Editorial, a German and English academic editing company. Typically, she writes at a desk overlooking a large garden of poisonous plants. She lives with two nearly grown children and various other animals who've all been well trained to not eat poisonous plants.
