Ninth Letter “Community” Issue
Deadline November 5 (must be received by this date). The online edition of the literary journal Ninth Letter, a publication of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, seeks submissions of unpublished fiction, nonfiction, and poetry for a special web issue on Community. Send 1-3 poems or one prose piece up to 3,500 words, plus a cover letter briefly explaining how your submission relates to the theme. Payment for accepted work is $25 per poem or $75 per story or essay, plus 2-year subscription. Editors say, "Without all of us, we're nothing. What does community mean to you? Send us your work that remembers where it came from, that knows it takes a village, that knows the power of common ground and common concerns. Show us your factions, your fellowships, your (inter)dependence, your cliques. Show us your roots, your beliefs, your needs, and who you share them with. Show us what it means to be better together." Ninth Letter is also accepting general submissions for its print edition through November 30.
