Helen Stine's multi-award-winning debut novel is set near Charleston, South Carolina, where she was born and raised. The Truthful Story is based on those early years living on the river, “out in the country," surrounded by the people and places that shaped her life. After receiving her undergraduate degree in English from the College of Charleston (where she fell in love with Southern literature), she raised a family as a military spouse, traveled extensively, and enjoyed a successful career in early education. While her experiences over the years exposed her to a rich repository of characters and events, it was her childhood memories of family and friends and the hauntingly beautiful landscape of the South Carolina Lowcountry that provided Helen with everything she needed to craft her first novel. The Truthful Story allowed Helen to revisit a place where everything in nature was personified, where the land, trees, and surrounding waters literally breathed alongside the diverse set of people that molded her, and she couldn’t wait to tell their story.
Helen's love of storytelling also branched into independent filmmaking. In 2010, she teamed with her husband, Mike, and their son, writer/director Daniel Stine, to form an independent film production company, and together they have produced four award-winning films. Helen lives in Villa Rica, Georgia with her husband and is working on her next novel.
