Atukunda Rachael Mutabingwa is an award-winning author, editor, and poet with a profound passion for storytelling in all its forms. A previous First Prize winner in the Genre Fiction category of the North Street Book Prize for her novel Kunda, Atukunda returns with her latest work, Mbegu.
In Mbegu, Atukunda continues her tradition of pushing narrative boundaries and challenging societal norms through the lens of dark fantasy and literary exploration. This epic explores the intersection of power, heritage, and survival, further establishing her reputation for vivid world-building and the fearless exploration of complex themes. Her debut work, Adavera, previously earned her a fellowship with the African Writers Trust, solidifying her voice within the contemporary African literary landscape.
Beyond her work in fantasy, Atukunda is currently crafting First Impressions, a Ugandan adaptation of Pride and Prejudice that reimagines the Austen classic through a vibrant, contemporary lens.
