Stop the Hate: Youth Speak Out Essay Contest Grades 11-12
Deadline January 20 (must be received by this date), formerly January 16. Recommended free contest awards scholarships and prizes up to $40,000 for essays, fewer than 500 words, on the topic of discrimination. Essays must be true accounts, not fictitious stories. 2020 prompt is inspired by the life of Leonard Bernstein. Open to 11th and 12th graders in certain counties in Northeast Ohio. Finalists in these grades must read their essay before an audience and be scored on the quality of their oral presentation, which is considered in the selection of scholarship winners. Online entry is strongly encouraged. Sponsored by the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage in Beachwood, Ohio.
