A Thousand Summers
By Sue Gerrard
There were a thousand summers in the sun
to celebrate, to anticipate
to hold our breathe for, to welcome.
Looking forwards, always forwards, never backwards;
never caring to remember the days passed,
but time runs on and takes us with it,
until the summers have all gone
and the chill of perpetual autumn
mists our eyes and dulls our memories.
