The History of Everything In Thirteen Easy Lessons
By James K. Zimmerman
Lesson One: In The Beginning was
The Word but before The Word
must have been The Before because
The Word had to come from
someplace before it in the first place
And in The Before there might have
been no sound like that tree falling
in a hypothetical forest if no one
was there to hear it so The Word
might not have been heard
in The First Place in the first place
Lesson Two: In The Beginning was
The Big Bang but before The Big Bang
must have been The Before because
The Big Bang had to come from
someplace before it in the first place
And in The Before there might have
been no light like Sasquatch hiding
in a forest in the Yukon if no one
was there to see it so The Big Bang
might not have been seen
in The First Place in the first place
Lesson Three: How could there be
The First Place in the first place?
Lesson Four: In The Before
there might have been Music and
in The Before there might have been
Dreamtime and in The Before there
might have been Everything In Oneness
Lesson Five: And then in Time—
after Time began to begin—
here We came: mud, slime, dust,
clay, self, created in the image
of The Big Bang, of stardust,
of The Word, of words like
"I can't express that" and
"I don't know what that means"
and occasional bursts of Light
Lesson Six: Which of course needed
Darkness because we thought it did,
having put words to the two, separated
them, opposed them to each other
Lesson Seven: Our anthem
to individual existence
Lesson Eight: And breath—
expansion contraction Big Bang
Black Hole Big Bang Black Hole
like one of those inflatable balloon
men in front of a dilapidated shack,
a used car dealership:
inflate in the morning deflate
in the evening inflate in the morning
deflate in the evening—something to buy
into like The Word or The Big Bang
Lesson Nine: It's been said we're
in the Kali Yuga, the last and most
depraved of the four great world ages
which started 5,122 years ago
and lasts for 432,000 years
so if we're in the Kali Yuga
we have only 426,878 years left
before The Whole Thing comes
crashing down, sucked back in—
The Big Implosion, The Evening
Deflation, The Great UnWording
Lesson Ten: Maybe enough time
to figure it out or maybe not before
it starts all over with The Word,
The Big Bang, The Morning Inflation
and then in Time here We come again
with Light and Darkness, Good
and Evil, Black and White, Sink
and Swim, Buy and Sell, "You"
and "Me" because we need all those
dualities in the daunting effort to get
The Whole Thing to Make Sense
Lesson Eleven: Or maybe it happens
only once like fireworks exploding
into stars on video and then the video
playing in reverse, the stars falling
back into nothingness, a Black Hole
the time before The Word or
The Big Bang when there was no
Light or Darkness, Good or Evil,
Black or White, "You" or "Me,"
just The Great Huge Amorphous
Whatever or The Infinitely Dense Ball
Much Smaller Than a Speck of Lint
Lesson Twelve (Review): And in
The Before there might have been
Music and in The Before there might
have been Dreamtime and in
The Before there might have been
Everything In Oneness
Lesson Thirteen: And No One there to know it
