Canute A. Brodhurst Prize for Short Fiction
Deadline December 31 (must be received by this date), formerly January 31. Neutral free contest awards $400 for the best story, maximum of 3,500 words or 10 pages, accepted by The Caribbean Writer during the deadline year on a theme that varies annually. 2019 theme is 'Dignity, Power, and Place in the Caribbean Space'. The Caribbean should be central to the work, or the work should reflect a Caribbean heritage, experience, or perspective. All eligible submissions to the magazine are also considered for the Daily News Prize for a US or UK British Islands resident ($500), the Vincent Cooper Literary Prize for exemplary writing in Caribbean Nation Language ($300), the Cecile de Jongh Literary Prize for a work that best expresses the spirit of the Caribbean ($500), the Marvin E. Williams Literary Prize to an emerging Caribbean author ($500), and the Boyce Literary Prize for a Caribbean author whose work best expresses the changing social dynamics of regional life ($500).
