CUTTHROAT Online Writing Mentorships and Manuscript Evaluations
A Four-Week ONE ON ONE ONLINE/SKYPE CUTTHROAT Mentorship costs just $1,000. This is much cheaper than a writers conference or a writing program. A powerful credit to have for your resume or vita or query letters to editors & publishers.
ALL MENTORSHIPS: During the month, you and your mentor will have 2 Skype sessions (30 minutes each), during which you may ask questions about your work. You will also have 6 email exchange sessions, one hour each, during which you and your mentor will discuss your work.
Poetry Mentorships: The mentorship will cover 8 of your poems. Submit 1-2 poems (50-line limit per poem) by email per week to your mentor, and the mentor will closely read your poem(s) and make written critical comments and suggestions, then email them to you. You may respond with questions for your mentor about each critical response to your poem.
Short Story Mentorships: Submit one full-length short story (up to 7,000 words) or four flash fiction pieces (1-3 pages each) via email for the month mentorship. Your mentor will closely read your story, then make written and extensive critical comments and suggestions via email each week. You may send one revision of your story per week to your mentor for further criticism. You may ask questions about any critical response.
Memoir and Essay Mentorships: Submit one memoir section or one essay (up to 7,000 words) via email for the month mentorship. Your mentor will closely read your submission, then make extensive written critical comments and suggestions via email each week on your essay or memoir. You may send one revision of your memoir or essay weekly to your mentor for further criticism. You may ask questions about any critical response.
A Six-Week In-depth ONE ON ONE Manuscript Evaluation costs just $2,000.
Novel Ms. Evaluation is a one-on-one evaluation session with novelist and editor Donley Watt. Mr. Watt will read your novel ms. (limit: 200 pages), then email critical comments and suggestions to you twice weekly. His evaluations will include extensive criticisms about character development, plot, dialogue, action, narrative and character arcs, etc.
Screenplay Ms. Evaluation is a one-on-one evaluation session with professional screenwriter Steve Barancik ("The Last Seduction" and other movies). Mr. Barancik will read your screenplay (up to 120 pages), then email you twice weekly for six weeks to make extensive critical suggestions and comments about character development, plot, action scenes, dialogue, narrative and character arcs, etc.
The Poetry or Short Story Ms. Evaluation is a one-on-one evaluation session of an entire poetry ms. (120-page limit) or a Short Story ms. (200-page limit). Your mentor will read your ms., email you twice weekly for six weeks to make extensive critical suggestions and help you revise your ms. Poetry evaluations will include ordering the ms., suggestions to omit or leave in poems, image, lyric, and/or narrative arcs, suggestions for revision of specific poems, etc. Short story evaluations will include ordering the ms., suggestions to omit or leave in specific stories, narrative arc, character development, suggestions for revision of specific stories, etc.
